Etna (“Mungibeddu” or “’a Muntagna” – the Mountain – in Sicilian) is the highest active volcano in Europe. Its recurring eruptions in the course of time have altered, sometimes deeply, the surrounding landscape. Le Case del Merlo represents the ultimate point of departure for excursions of all kinds to discover this fascinating area.
ETNA EXCURSIONS
This tour will allow you to visit Etna without overlooking anything. It will be a fun, adventurous and interesting experience. Crossing Alpine forests, which alternate with moonscapes, we will hike one of the most representative Etna craters, we will explore a volcanic cavern (eruptive stage of the last great flare-up) with the proper gear, and, depending on weather conditions, we may be able to catch sight of Taormina, Calabria and Aeolian islands from the top of the volcano.

Alcantara Gorges
This tour will allow you to portray one of the most appealing landscapes of the Etna territory, and to discover the taste of ancient gastronomic traditions. The tour will take place on board of the legendary minivan of the 70s: “Fiat Panorama”. Passing through vineyards, olive tree groves and ancient eruptions’ lava stones, we will visit various spots of the Alcantara river and of the ancient villages up to the top of the volcano that created the Alcantara Gorges lavas. At the end of the tour, with the additional refreshment fee, it will be possible to savor a typical lunch cooked with fresh local products.
